Filipino boxers Miel Fajardo and Zyvyr “Blitz Kid” Medecilo will get their shots at world championship glory when they challenge two Japanese champions on November 26 at the Ebara Wave Arena in Tokyo, Japan.
Fajardo will headline the card against Masamichi Yabuki for the IBF flyweight world championship, while Medecilo takes on newly-crowned WBA minimumweight champion Takeshi Ishii in the co-main event.
Fajardo, the IBF’s No. 1-ranked flyweight and mandatory challenger, is looking to dethrone the reigning champion and pound-for-pound standout Yabuki.
“We really extended our training even further,” Fajardo told media members on Monday. “We aren’t relying on a knockout. Also, being more technical, that’s really what we studied. We’ll be even more technical when it comes to the fight.”
Meanwhile, Medecilo will look to make history by capturing a world title in just his 10th professional fight.
A victory over Ishii would make Medecilo the fastest Filipino boxer to win a world championship, surpassing the record of Malcolm Tuñacao, who claimed a world title in his 11th professional bout.
“Actually, I’m really ready because right after the fight (vs. Tatsuro Nakashima), I started training right away because my manager told me that before this year ends, we’ll already be fighting for the world championship,” Medecilo said.
